A RUC licence is paid for in advance and expires after a certain mileage is reached.
If you are issued with an assessment for unpaid RUC you are required to pay the debt within two months, as failure to pay may result in monetary penalties.
For example, if you do not pay within two months an additional 10% penalty may be applied and a further 10% if the amount remains unpaid after three months.
Penalties also apply for failure to pay after an amended assessment or new assessment is issued.
This vehicle requires a RUC to legally be on the road, however there is no record of a RUC ever having been issued for this vehicle.
The vehicle is either a brand new vehicle, a recent import or is never used on a public road (for example a farm vehicle).
If the vehicle is not diesel powered or is more than 3,500 kg, contact the NZTA for further advice.
